The school was started in 1847 by notable philanthropies of this locality, the school was then known by the name “SAMSKRITA ANDHRA DRAVIDA PATASALA.
In 1857, English teaching was introduced and school came to be known as THE MUTHIALPET ANGLO-VERNACULAR SCHOOL.
The school was upgraded to the status of Middle school in 1881.
In 1896, the school was elevated to the status of a high school under the name “THE MUTHIALPET HIGH SCHOOL”.
In 1915, Primary school classes shifted to Linghi Chetty street building.
In order to accommodate & impart education, Land was acquired and new three-storeyed building was raised and declared open by Thiru S.Kumaraswamy Reddiar, the then Minister for Education, Govt of Madras.
Permanent recognition was obtained from the government in the year 1938.
In 1947, the institution completed 100 years of its noble service and Grandeur Centenary was celebrated in March 1949. The Chief Justice of the Madras High Court, The Chief Minister and the Education Minister graced the function with their presence.
In 1961, Dr.Rathnavelu Subramanim Muthialpet High school was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of the Madras State, Thiru K.Kamaraj in Linghi Cheety Street, Madras.
In 1995, Dr.Rathnavelu Subramaniam Muthialpet Nursery & primary school was opened.
